La Sierra de Aracena
|
The Sierra de Aracena, north of Sevilla, is an area of wooded hills. A mixture of natural forest, chestnut groves and cork oak. Black Iberian pigs are kept under the oaks and chestnuts to produce the local speciality, jamon Serrano (air dried ham) famous all over Spain. The area is popular in summer with Sevillanas wishing to escape the heat of the city but is almost undiscovered by foreign visitors. The walking will be fairly relaxed, some climbing but not too much or too high. We will walk for three to six hours a day on mule tracks and forest paths, enjoying the impressive wild life on the way, picnicking on hill tops and beside streams. We may even see otters, and the wild flowers in spring time are amazing. There will be a day off in the middle of the week when you can just relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the local villages or explore further afield if you so wish. Our first three nights will be spent in the Hostal Tiribio situated in the centre of Galaroza. A small Spanish run hotel. From here we will take walks out to Valdelarco, and Castaño del Robledo.
The third day we will walk to our second centre, the village of Alajar, via Fuenteheridos, where our base will be La Posada run by an English woman and her Spanish husband,. The fourth day you will be free to do as you please. On days five and six we will explore the countryside around Alajar with walks to Linares de la Sierra via the "lost village" Los Madroñeros and to Santa Ana la Real , maybe visiting the artists colony of El Calabacino.
This holiday is offered at £425 per person, based on two people sharing a twin room, excluding flights. All guided walks are included as is bed and breakfast, all evening meals and lunches on the walk days.
